Makeup My Mind : Beauté Emporium

I don't usually do makeup.  Mostly because I am not very good at it.  However, I do love lip products. Lipsticks, lip tints, chapsticks, lip gloss ... the list goes on.

This may be unpopular opinion, but I have always preferred lip stains to any other lip product. I can't explain why in detail.  They just feel better to me. Maybe it is because a lot of it is organic which is great for a person like me with very sensitive skin and allergic to everything.

However, they are not without problems which I will explain later when I begin my review.

Beauté Emporium is a newly-opened brand, being only a few months old. The brand was launched by a group of friends that love makeup and one being quite good with Chemistry.  I can't imagine the amount of work these girls had to do to make this possible. Despite being a baby in the makeup scene, they are getting good reviews and garnering attention, because it actually works.

I don't usually review makeup on this blog, mostly because that is not my line of expertise, but I truly believe in this brand as a consumer.

They have a variety of shades, but I will review only the ones I have now, Alaina and Pretty in Peach.

My Problems with some Lip Stains/Tints:

  • Short Longevity - Some lip stains don't last long. It would only take one glass of water to lose the color or a meal. There are even a few that would only stick for four hours at most. So oftentimes this would mean reapplying. I am someone who forgets to reapply a lot, so it is a bit of a problem.
  • Teeth staining - Maybe this is a problem reserved for water-based stains.  I like bright red colors, however I like them better on my lips and not my teeth.  It is a bit embarrassing for me sometimes, since I am a person that likes to laugh or smile.  I can't count how many times people had to point out that the product got into my teeth.
  • Dripping - Maybe another problem with water-based stains.  Sometimes, when I try to apply it they dribble down my chin and it is difficult to get it off.  Sometimes I look like a vampire that finished feeding.
  • Strange taste - Some tints also leave a bitter taste in your mouth.  While I am an avid coffee drinker, some tastes are not great to have in your mouth the whole day.

Shades:

Pretty in Peach - Matte Lip Stain

Friend, using for the first time.
This shade is actually one of their bestsellers, often selling out by the end of the day, and I can actually see why.  It is very pigmented and the color actually looks good on any skin color.

So I had to experiment

I somehow convinced a fair-skinned friend of mine to try it.  She looks beautiful in it.  When I asked her for her opinion, this is what she had to say:

"I actually like it. And it smells good and it isn't like other lip tints that have a bitter taste."

I am a completely different skin-tone, so I had my doubts at first it would work on me too. I am a darker than her. To my surprise, it did.  I have enough color to satisfy my need for it but not so overwhelming that I can't use it daily.

After dinner, no reapplication
A great thing about it is that you don't lose the color immediately. So, forgetting to reapply after drinking or eating isn't much of an issue anymore.

Another issue this doesn't have is staining my teeth.  I am not afraid to smile with this anymore.  This is especially important to me since I am a scary-looking person when I do not smile. Since it is matte, it is not drippy either.

I think if I were to have one comment against it, it would be that the initial taste is something that I needed to get used to. There is a metallic taste upon application.  However, it is not a taste that stays with you the whole time, so I mostly forgive it. For me, it really isn't a deal-breaker. However, I feel like I should still mention it.

Alaina - Powder Lip Stain

Using for the first time.
For a while now, I have been looking for nude-colored lipstick or tints.  Unfortunately, it is really difficult to find something for my skin tone or, more importantly, my price-range.

I fell in love with this shade.  It is so pretty.  I also feel that the shade gives off a different feel from Pretty in Peach so I am glad I bought it for the variety. I think it feels better with lip gloss on though.

I am used to coloring my lips red or red-ish, so this is still something I am getting used to. While I am still on the fence as to whether this look is for me, I still recommend people to try it if you are fond of the natural or "no make-up" look.  .

It has no strange taste, it doesn't stain my teeth nor do I have to worry about it dripping.

However, one comment I probably have after using it for one afternoon is that I needed to reapply more with this than Pretty in Pink, but still not as much as most lip tints I have used.

Overall Thoughts:

An attractive feature it definitely has that everyone can agree on is the price.  You can buy these for only P89 (Pretty in Peach) and P95 (Alaina).  The price is perfect for students, which is why I find it smart that they are selling at places they will definitely encounter students.  I know that they have other products that are even cheaper this and are as low as P49. I will probably try them another time.

These prices for how they perform overall is worth it.

It is FDA-approved and  organic which, again, is perfect for someone like me who is cursed with sensitive skin. It also means that it is safe for kids to play with and use.

It is cruelty-free. This is a must for me lately.  I tend to not buy anything that isn't cruelty-free anymore.

I know this matters to some people, so I feel like I should mention it.  This brand is 100% local.  If you want to support local entrepreneurs, this is definitely something you should look at.

I am not a make-up expert, but as a consumer I really do love these products.  I really wish the creators the best.  As they and the brand itself are young, there is still a lot of possibilities.  I am excited to see where they will go from here.
